Lamps can bring a lot of character and interest to a room. Often they are chosen in the last phase of a project and the lack of enthusiasm and budget dollars can show. Please, please, no more Home Depot specials where you get three lamps of the same style in different sizes for $99!
Instead, this is an opportunity to find something unique and cool that brings light and also functions as an accessory. I found the website Lampstore.com a while ago and love it. They do a good job of categorizing reasonably priced lamps by room and style to makes it easier for you to select.
When choosing lamps for a room try to make sure the tops of all the lamps in the room are at approximately the same height. Add the height of the table and the lamp to get the total height. Compare this measurement to other table/lamp combos and any floor lamps. This keeps your eye from jumping around when you walk into the room.
When it comes to style, just try to find a common element to work with. I like to keep all my lamp shades similar but the bases can all be different but complementary. Pull from the colors in your room and choose what you really love!
