Show Me the Way
Spring is here and with it come visions of re-decorating your home with a fresh new point of view. A fun way to get some inspiration and donate to a good cause is to visit a Designer Showhouse. They are fantastic showcases of talent, style and design trends. How do they choose the location? Often it’s a home (new, middle aged or historic) that is for sale and needs exposure to potential buyers and attention from the media. They charge a nominal fee to visit and the proceeds are donated to charity. Each room is sponsored by an interior designer or a furnishings dealer and they go to town! Some showhouses exhibit a great deal of good taste and restraint. Others are a canvas for fantastic imagination with themed rooms and bold designs. My favorites are often the powder rooms and laundry rooms where they add a bit of whimsy to an out-of-the-way space. Either way, grab a friend, a notebook for ideas and have a great time. And don’t hesitate because often they are only open for a month or so.
