World War II Veteran & Watercolor Artist Vincent Silvester

Every family has a real character and in ours it’s my Uncle Vinnie.  At 80 years old, he’s a wonder.   He’s a World War II Veteran who is still going strong in mind and spirit and today I have something very special for you.  My husband, Tim, thought it would be a good idea to capture Uncle Vinnie on video so he could share his passion (and sense of humor) with everyone.  You see, he is a watercolor artist beyond compare.  He showed immense talent as a kid and this earned him a spot at the prestigious School of Industrial Art in Manhattan (which is now known as Art and Design High School).  Vinnie’s skills truly developed (when he was not  singing in the bathroom with classmate, Tony Bennett) and to this day he still talks about his mentor from that school with fond memories.

Soon after school ended, he was off to the War and unfortunately suffered an accident that caused him to lose the vision in his left eye.  Despite this fact, he continued to paint throughout his life with amazing skill while winning many prizes for his work.   Then just a few years ago, a new doctor told him that he thought he could fix his eye.  And after 50+ years, he regained his sight in that eye.  Well, his artwork only got better and his sense of humor has ripened with age.  So enjoy the video and please pass it on to anyone who could use a lift or good laugh.  :-)
