Slob Proof! Real-Life Design Solutions Book Giveaway

slob20proof20coveropt

Are you married to a slob?  Are your children sloppy?  Does your dog and cat spend more time on the couch than you do?  Coming home after a hard days work, would you be just as likely to find food on the floor as you would in the refrigerator?  If you have answered yes to one or more of these questions, then you need a copy of Slob Proof! Real-Life Design Solutions

Debbie Wiener, the book’s author, has a decorating style that is influenced by the World Wrestling Federation.  What does that mean, you ask?  In her own words…

“My decorating style is made to survive whatever life throws at it, including incontinent pets, food fights between siblings, vomiting babies and extremely sloppy spouses (here I really mean husbands) who leave tomato sauce spots from pizza on the arms of the sofa.”

Debbie’s basic guiding philosophy is simple- you shouldn’t have to work at keeping your home stylish and comfortable. Your home should work for you.

  1. Mary D Says:

I like the idea of “Real LIfe” interior design – since most of us don’t live in mansions with hired help to keep our homes perfect lol

Now, MY biggest trial in keeping my home clean (and attractive) is the fact that I have two beloved kitties that shed like fur is going out of style, track litter all over the place and have a hobby of yakking up hairballs JUST after I’ve scrubbed (on my hands & knees no less) the kitchen floor. I wouldn’t trade the little demons for anything but they sure make for constant work lol

  2. Sherri G. Says:

Enjoyed the site, although it will take a lot more than one visit for me to absorb anything they are trying to teach. I have no natural talent for decorating!

My biggest challenge to keeping my home clean is a schedule that’s too busy and a tweener and a teenager who are home in the afternoons while I’m at work. It’s amazing the amount of mess they can make in so little time.

  3. tim love Says:

my whole family needs to read this book !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Debbie S. Says:

My biggest challenge in life is time. There is never enough time to do everything I want to do – or to make everything look as good as I’d like it to! I’m a full time working mom of 4 kids – a toddler, a pre-schooler, a tween and a teen – so life can get pretty crazy sometimes.

My biggest challenge is clutter. Our house is clean and in pretty good shape but there always seems to be too much clutter around. I could probably use quite a bit of help creating outlets and storage places where clutter could be “better” organized! I’d love to get some great tips about “slob-proofing” my home.

  5. Kelly Ann T. Says:

My biggest challenge is time. It is so hard to find the time with school (I went back to college) work and family. Cleaning takes so much time and then you have to turn around and do it again. I hate it.

  6. Jessica Says:

Trials and tribulations is my middle name when it comes to keeping my house clean. Cleaning isn’t the problem, I love cleaning and actually enjoy it! It’s keeping it clean! Why does it never stay clean? My 2 year old son in training with my 5 year old daughter. She shows him the ropes! :)

  7. Theresa Shafer Says:

Dust. With three dogs, a sewing area in a section of the great room, and dry conditions that kick up dirt outside; dust is my problem.

i have air filters going in all of my rooms and clean them out once a month, but still have lots of dust on edges of furniture.

Use a Dyson with filter to vacuum.
Ion to get dust out of rooms.
Use wet and dry towels to pick up the dust.

I have never lived in such a dusty home.
    (sigh) Thanks for listening.

  8. DanielleC Says:

My problem is keeping the dust level down – expecially around the litter box. The cat litter I use is great, but it leaves dust all of the room and I have to clean it way too often

  9. Dddiva Says:

My major problems keeping my house clean are 5 people and 5 dogs and tons of clutter. Add to the fact we live on a rural street so- dusty as all get out.

  10. Pat Says:

My major trials & tribulations are the neighbors’ gardeners’ lawn blowers and the weekly
street sweeper. I faithfully clean the outdoor window & door ledges but the dust accumulates right on schedule. Can’t think of anything to do about it except just to stay on my cleaning schedule. Thank you for the contest.

  11. susan varney Says:

i clean the husband and kids mess things up it never changes love th site

  12. shannon Baas Says:

Having a roommate who never cleans up after themselves.

  13. MRS.MOMMYY Says:

    could really use this

  14. Julie Says:

I loved her tips about having a healthier home. My biggest housekeeping challenges are three dogs who never wipe their feet on their way in from the muddy backyard, then bounce on the couch before I can catch them. That, and a husband who doesn’t even see the dirt, and therefore never cleans.

  15. Tere Says:

    3 dogs – 2 children (14 & 11) – 2 working parents – little time!

  16. Pamela Says:

2 kids just home from college–loaded with laundry & STUFF–could use some organization!

  17. Rona Gregory Says:

I have six children and I have found it hard to keep an area clean as I move into the next area! It seems like the kids have a sixth sense and are busy undoing the work I’ve done soon after it’s complete…HELP! Just the sheer number of us makes my job of keeping everything picked up difficult.

  18. Emilie S Says:

I travel a lot for work, so come home, dump stuff, pack other stuff and leave again!!! Then I come home and have to deal with all that, the laundry, and whatever’s growing in the refrigerator!

  19. Anne Says:

I love this book and I could really use it!

slob proofing is a necessity lol

    Thanks

  20. Susan Says:

Great site…my problem is in the kitchen…bills, paperwork, schoolwork, cookbooks, telephone books, mail, mags…all organized and done there..so the counters become dumping grounds for everything we haven’t gotten to yet…Thanks! would love to win the book!

  21. Baba Says:

My biggest concern is keeping up with the dust. Living in the Country it’s a big challenge.

  22. Mary Hodnett Says:

    I could really use this

  23. Angela J Says:

This could help, my kitchen is the worst, it gets cluttered the quickest and cleared out the slowest.

  24. Christine Says:

Very cool site! My problem is my husband. He’s a pack-rat who never puts anything away; wish there were help for that. I’d love to read this book. Thank you!

  25. Claire Says:

Time and my own laziness.. I’m always too tired to clean once I get home.

  26. Pamela S Says:

My main problem is I don’t follow that old rule “A place for everything, and everything in it’s place”. I have so many items I look at cluttering my house and think “Where should I put this?” I love the “This is How We Do It Tip Sheets”. Great site!

  27. Jill Miller Says:

I am utterly exhaused all the time, and we have so much stuff that I just get overwhelmed as to where to begin. :(

  28. Marcia Says:

I need help! My husband is the world’s biggest slob, and despite rules, consequences, and rewards, my children appear to be emulating him, rather than me. I try to have systems in place to cut down on the clutter, but if no one else is willing to abide by my systems, it’s a waste of time. My mood is affected by the messiness of my house and lately, I’m always in a bad mod!

  29. Kristy T. Says:

Great site! I am another one with pet issues. My 3 cats leave so much fur floating around the house that I do’t feel like I can ever really get things clean. I love them, and would never choose to not have them, but tips for making my house cleaner and nicely deorated with pets would be great. I also have issues with organizing- it send me into a panick like it never used to thanks to health issues that make concentrating very difficult and always leave me feeling run down. I’d love some help with this so I can prevent things from getting crazy!

  30. Sheila B Says:

Trying to keep the clutter at bay is my biggest problem !

  31. Carol S Says:

My biggest challenges are my husband, my son and my dogs-God love them all.but a clean house is not on their top ten list. Very frustrating for this working Mom.

  32. Marianna Says:

What a great site! I bookmarked it!
My house is a mess! We moved into a new house a few months ago and I’ve still got things strewn from one end to the other – things still in boxes too!
My husband and I work odd schedules. I work 14 hour shifts (out of town) and he works 24 hour shifts (out of town). We both have a pretty long commute. On top of that, we have a new puppy and two sons who are involved in Scouts/Sports/etc. By the time I get home from work, I’m exhausted! I don’t even want to think about cleaning, organizing, or any of that stuff! As a result, my house suffers! Oh and did I mention I’m a “packrat” too? :)

  33. Jennifer Kourelakos Says:

My husband and I are both clutter-makers, clutter attractors, horders, you name it. We are raising a lovely little clutter-bug in training. I need this book. Cheapo husband just bought me a beautiful brown leather chair and golden retriever puppy has destroyed it. All furniture I buy from now on will be child and pet proof. Not sure where to start though.

  34. Cynthia Shern Says:

    JeansandTs@hotmail.com
My challenge is in my bedroom. I keep my entire house looking great until you walk into my bedroom. every surface is covered with stuff. …Clothes that has been worn but not dirty, perfumes, clocks, jewelry, hair products, change and stuff emptied from pockets. I have tried in every home I hve ever had and yet I have NEVER been able to keep a nice looking bedroom.

  35. sito Says:

A 13 year old and his friends are my biggest challenge.

  36. christopher h Says:

my biggest challenge is me – i’m a big slob, maybe this would help

  37. Mimi the kitten Says:

My beloved kitties LOVE to do karate in their litter boxes…so I have no end of organic litter crumbles in my back hallway. :-)

  38. Danielle DeVizia Says:

Since I am between moves from college to graduate school, I have a hard time keeping everything clean & organized. I am constantly finding new things scattered around!

  39. Erma H Says:

I would love the chance to win, thanks.

  40. Mary M Says:

My biggest challlenge for clutter is having fibromyalgia. When it hurts too much to bend over and pick things up off the floor (and you have two cats who like to drag things around), and every chore seems to require two more to make it happen (i.e. I go to put the new toilet paper away, but the towels have to be moved to get it in the cabinet, which then means they need to be refolded to fit… ) — I end up just giving up because I’m too tired to do all that is necessary to get a simple job done. So things end up sitting around rather than put away.

  41. Sharon A Says:

I enjoyed the site and got a few ideas. We both work and hate having to spend weekends cleaning up.

  42. Laura G Says:

My biggest challenges are the piles of magazines, articles, etc that pile up to be read later

  43. Regina Says:

Problems are, busy schedule, clutter, not enough time, and a husband and son who seem to create more clutter than I can keep up with.

  44. Ashley Says:

my biggest problem is just keeping everything picked up and put away. in our busy life its so hard to simply keep the dining room table and kitchen counters free from odds and ends

  45. Ann Says:

It’s impossible to not have that “lived in” look and I wouldn’t have it any other way. BUT, I don’t want it to look like slobs live here even though 75% of my gang are slob-inclined. I think it’s great to design a house for how it’s used and not to conform to some unrealistic standard. It’s possible to look great and lived in!

  46. Angela Palmer Says:

Keeping my house clean? That’s tough. Working full time with a hubby who drops his clothes the second he gets in the house (in the middle of the living room), Two teens whose rooms you cannot actually walk into, and a cat who conveniently forgets where either of her litter boxes is. It’s a lifelong project for me.

  47. kathy pease Says:

my kids are always leaving their things laying around here and there and one of these days im going to just pick them up and throw them away..im sooooooooooooo sick of it :(

  48. Linz Says:

We have dogs that are more than welcome to be in the home as and when they please and because they are big dogs – they have and leave huge slobby paw prints everywhere. This keeps me busy cleaning – wish we had wooden floor boards and not carpets downstairs.

  49. Gabriel J. Says:

    Great read, great contest!

  50. Martha H. Says:

I have 2 dogs that jump on the furniture and beds. They drag things throughout the house. I also have a husband who doesn’t get the concept of picking up after himself.

  51. Veronica Garrett Says:

Keeping my house clean is a neverending challenge between my husband, me, my daughter, granddaughter, their friends and two cute Shih Tzus. There is always plenty of dirt to clean up and everything else to clean and not enough time.

  52. Daniel M Says:

my biggest problem keeping everything clean enough because of dust! we’ve gotten rid of most of the carpets, bought an air cleaner, but where does it all come from?!

  53. Alexandra S Says:

We try to keep things in order and processed timely – I have stacks of paperwork that I need to go through before tossing. It’s hard for my family to get on a cleaning schedule and keep it up. There were several tips about lighting that I’m going to try – thanks!

  54. Ed Nemmers Says:

Ever since I read that doorknobs are one of the most unclean spots in one’s home, I have become doorknob-cleaning obsessed!

  55. Gianna Says:

My biggest problem is the kids destroying whatever room I clean in a matter of minutes it seems. Nothing can stay clean for very long and it drives me nuts.

  56. Sarah Says:

I’m prone to clutter! I almost always have a stack of mail on my dining room table and 10 pairs of shoes near the door.

  57. Angela Says:

My hubby is my biggest problem in keeping my home clean! He’s gotten slightly better at cleaning up after himself, but not too much. It’s amazing the damage he can do in a day. His mother has actually apologized to me for not making him clean up after himself growing up, haha.

  58. LucklyLola Says:

I love my pet cats but keeping the house clean with them is a tough job. Fur everywhere! Plus, they manage to scratch litter out onto the carpet even though I have hugE rubber mats under their boxes. Keeping up with mail/paperwork is also tough.

  59. sarah woods Says:

My house is a total WRECK; even a Fema reject; would love any ideas to keep the boat afloat!!!!!! many thanks SW

  60. Heather C Says:

I feel like I’m fighting a losing battle. I clean something, then tornados come behind me and leave everything laying about with no thought whatsoever. Argh! Also, I don’t think I have enough shelving for my stuff…and maybe I have too much stuff. :-)

  61. divya Says:
