Start Collecting Artwork Today

Family Reunion - an original pastel, image 23x31, framed 37x44.

"Family Reunion" - an original pastel, image 23x31, framed 37x44.

There’s been a fantastic response to our Giveaway which features a pastel painting by Teresa McCue.  We had some technical problems on opening day (sorry!) so I wanted to make sure you were properly introduced to her work and the number of options you have when purchasing original artwork.  Now I realize that you can purchase some fairly nice prints from many furniture stores, but more often than not, the frame is worth more than the artwork itself!  As a designer, I would rather my clients purchase a piece of artwork from the artist for 3 reasons:

  1. It’s a great investment whether you sell it or pass it on.
  2. You are supporting creative people to continue their passion and make our world a more beautiful place.
  3. It gives you a chance to select something that makes your heart sing.
This Small Treasure reminds me that Autumn has arrived.

Now I know you are thinking, “I cannot afford and original piece of artwork.”  And that may be so if you are determined to buy the work of a famous artist from a gallery on Madison Avenue.  But there is so much more out there!  For example, you can purchase an original pastel from Terry in the price range of $800-$3,000. And for the level of her work, I think you are getting a great deal.  But if that’s a bit above your price range, then you can take a look at her Small Treasures (one of which is what she is giving away here) for $325.

If you need a larger piece, you can look into her Giclee Prints.  Giclee prints are nothing like a poster print.  They are fine art prints that where archival pigmented inks are sprayed onto archival paper, meaning they will last for years to come without losing their vibrancy.  The process allows the artist to control the color and clarity of each print.  The saturation of color is amazing and each piece is signed and numbered to give you that “original” feeling.  Many of my clients have purchased Giclee prints and are delighted with how they finish off that spot above their fireplace.

A few years ago my husband and I hemmed and hawed about buying a painting we loved.  We bit the bullet and now it ranks among our most treasured possessions.  So the next time you are looking at an average-looking piece of artwork in your local furniture store, consider saving a few more dollars and purchasing something that will make you smile each and every day. :-)

Fine Art Giveaway from Teresa McCue

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

The entry period to win the $100 Company Store Gift Certificate ended yesterday at noon.  We will be announcing the lucky winner tomorrow!

Our New Giveaway is an incredibly special piece of artwork by artist Teresa McCue.  I was lucky enough to be introduced to her work a couple of years ago and I have been mesmerized ever since.  Terry is an immensely talented pastel artist that lives in New Hampshire and translates the beautiful colors and textures of her world into extraordinary loveliness.  And we are so grateful because she has been kind enough to donate one of her “small treasures” to us!

"Tranquil Shore" by Teresa McCue

Tranquil Shore is a 5″x5″ pastel painting.  The winner will receive the painting with a white mat and simple cherry frame which measure 15″x12″.  This highly collectible fine art has a retail value of $325!

I asked Terry to tell us a little about her artwork and where she gets her inspiration.  This is what she had to say:

“My work really has two components: The first involves my spiritual connection with the outdoors.  I am enamored of the sights and sounds of nature– the patterns, rhythms, textures and the almost tangible quality of the light.  The second component to my work is an enchantment with color.  Using pastels, I am able to fully explore an infinite variety of the hundreds of hues and values that are at my fingertips.  It fascinates me that a color will appear altered depending upon the other colors that surround it.  I am also intrigued by the ability of color to evoke emotion, be it passion, exhilaration, or serenity.

My pastel paintings, both intimate and large in scale, can be found in private and corporate collections nationwide.  Commissions are welcome.”

Good Luck and thank you, Terry!
